Old Florida Inspired Wedding in Winter Park

With a fresh color palette and lots of citrus details, this old Florida inspired wedding captured by Marissa Moss Photography is one for the books! Sage and orange is such a sweet color combination for a springtime wedding and was perfect for this D.C. couple getting married in Winter Park, Florida. They wanted an elegant Florida feel, so orange and citrus details were a must! We love the orange crate centerpieces created by Bluegrass Chic and the cute calligraphy orange place cards. The result is a timeless and chic vibe with an authentic Florida touch, and we think you’re going to love it just as much as we do!

What (or who) helped you most in your planning process and/or on your wedding day?

Mark and I live in D.C. and we got married in my hometown of Winter Park, FL so having my family in the area was extremely helpful throughout the planning process.  They were able to meet with our vendors when we couldn’t make it down to Florida.  The days leading up to the wedding, our families and friends were so amazing and stepped in to help us finish up decorations and run last minute errands.  Some of the best (and most stressful) times of our wedding was tying ribbons for name cards, painting signs, and building chocolate boxes until late at night with family and friends.  It took lots of wine, laughing and maybe a few tears to get everything done but we were so thankful for everyone’s help! Our vendors also went above and beyond to make sure everything went smoothly on our special day!

What was the most important thing to you when deciding who to work with for your wedding?

It was really important to find vendors who had great reputations and could bring my ideas to life! We didn’t have a wedding planner so most of the inspiration came from ideas or pictures I found but I wasn’t sure how everything would come together.  All of our vendors transformed my ideas and made our wedding day so special!  I also knew the day would fly by and wanted to make sure we had the perfect photographer (which we did!) to capture the moments that went by so quickly!

What was your inspiration for your wedding details and/or design?

We really like simple/elegant designs and wanted our wedding to have a “Florida” feel so we incorporated a lot of fresh oranges and greenery in our decorations and flower arrangements.  Our florist did such a wonderful job bringing my vision to life by using stained orange crates and terra cotta pots for our table center pieces.  She helped me select flowers that were both elegant and had a pop of orange to fit in with our design.  We also loved that our venue had huge windows looking out to big mossy oak trees which made a great scenery for our photos.

What was your favorite thing about your wedding?

We had so many favorite moments from our wedding day, it’s really hard to choose one thing! I loved when my husband, along with our wedding party got to see the reception room while the guests were at cocktail hour.  It’s a crazy feeling to see the finished product after all the hard work we put in over the past year and a half! My favorite thing about our wedding was having all of our friends and family there to celebrate with us!  Our guests traveled from all over the country to come to our wedding and it meant so much to have everyone together for our special day. We were all having such a great time, we ended up extending our reception a half an hour to continue the party!

What is your best piece of advice for other brides?

I’m sure all brides hear this at some point but it’s true that the day truly flies by!  I recommend a great photographer because we loved to relive the day and see the special moments through our pictures! Just remember what the day is about and don’t sweat the small things.  Something may go wrong but the guests probably won’t even notice so enjoy the day with your new husband and guests!
